Mastopexy, also referred to as a “breast lift“, raises and reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin and repositioning the nipples and remaining breast tissue. Breast augmentation is often combined with this surgery for longer lasting projection. The procedure usually takes two to three hours. Mastopexy can be performed under intravenous sedation with local anesthesia or under general anesthesia.

The side effects that come with a breast lift are temporary swelling, bruising, discomfort, and numbness to the breast skin and tissue. You may return to work in one to two weeks with no strenuous activity for one month. Fading of scars takes several months to two years.
Breast lift risks are infection, skin loss, and unevenly positioned nipples. Permanent loss of feeling in nipples or breasts is an additional risk. The duration of results is variable and may last longer when breast implants are inserted as part of the procedure.
